Life is hard sometimes. It often seems like just as you get everything on an even footing and going according to plan – boom! Life throws you a curveball! Unfortunately, these curveballs might take the form of a tough situation that can knock you off course. It doesn’t matter that you face these setbacks, that’s just part of life – everyone faces their own struggles! What matters is how you react to those setbacks. As your life coach, I am here to let you know that laying down and accepting the knockdown is NOT an option. It is time to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start moving forward again – even if you need to take a new route! No matter how big your setbacks seem – there is always a way past them!
Let’s take a look at a few ways that you can overcome even the most significant challenges.
1 – Be Willing to Make Adjustments
Over the years, I have learned from being a life coach that we have to be ready to make adjustments if we want to move forward. When life knocks you down, try not to look at it as a failure – it is an opportunity to regroup. If a setback means your plan is no longer viable, then take some time to revise it and approach your goal from a new angle.
2 – Focus on the Things You Can Control
When you are faced with a significant challenge in life, there are parts that you cannot control, and the biggest mistake people make is getting hung up on that. Instead, it would be best if you focused on the things you have control over, such as your response to the challenge. I share with my life coach clients my own experiences and what I did to overcome them. As some of you may already know, in June of 2020, I suffered my setback when an accident landed me in intensive care. I had no control over my injuries, but I do have control over how I responded to the accident. I focused on gratitude. I am grateful that I survived. I am thankful for healthcare workers who saved my life. I am thankful to my family for their support. Instead of wallowing in how much this incident has set me back, I am focusing my energy on my recovery.
3 – Keep Showing Up!
When times get tough, the best thing that you can do is keep showing up! It is easy to quit when life feels like a struggle, but once you do that, it becomes easier not to chase your dream. Nobody ever said reaching your goal was going to be easy, so keep showing up and keep moving forward no matter what life throws at you. If you find yourself feeling demoralized, give your life coach a call to talk through ways to build your motivation.
4 – Have Faith
In my lifetime, I have overcome many things, both personally and professionally, and the one thing that has always helped me through the challenge is my faith. When you have faith, you can let go and trust that things are going to work out. It might take some time to figure out a solution, but have faith that the answer is there waiting to be discovered.
5 – Find Others Who Encourage You
I always tell my life coach clients that they need to surround themselves with the right kind of people. Seek out the people who already have what you want and learn from them. Look for those who will encourage you even when the chips are down. Remove haters from your life. You don’t need someone to hold you down when you have already stumbled on your journey. When I face tough times, I turn to my family and my friends, knowing that they will have my back.
